Ian Rankin was born on April 28th, 1960 and is currently 66 years old. Ian Rankin was born in Cardenden, Fife, Scotland. Rankin attended The University of Edinburgh where he received a Bachelor of Arts.

Ian Rankin is known for writing in the Mystery, Thriller, and Crime Fiction genres.

Ian Rankin is the author of the Inspector Rebus series which currently consists of 25 novels. The Inspector Rebus series started in 1987 with the novel Knots and Crosses. The most recently released novel in the Inspector Rebus series was Midnight and Blue which was released in 2024. There are no upcoming novels for the Inspector Rebus series.
