John’s ability to paint a vivid picture with words makes his writing come off like it is really poetry. It is so easy to start begin one of his books and lose yourself in them.
After reading a few of his books, his characters have become like family members for me and each novel is a roller coaster ride of emotion. I have images in my mind of the people from the Charlie Parker novels that are so real when I read that I just end up getting caught up in the moment.
He allows his clever wit to shine through and his own masterful command of the English language.
Thanks for this list of books. I was rearranging my bookshelf and wanted to make sure I got the Parker series in just the right order.
Speaking of Parker, can we get a movie/TV adaptation of this series already!?
I always pictured a serious actor like Ed Norton or Tom Hardy taking the role of Parker. Then maybe Lance Reddick or Idris Elbra from The Wire as Louis. Then Angel, in my mind, has to be Mark Ruffalo.
John Connolly’s ‘The Book of Lost Things’ is the most shocking discovery I’ve made so far this year. It wasn’t at all what I expected. Also, I can’t believe I’ve never heard of Connolly. He’s a genius.
‘The Book of Lost Things’ sounds like YA. Initially, I was cross with my librarian for leaving it on the YA shelf. But after reading it and skimming the synopsis, I can see why he thought it deserved that classification.
This book is incredibly dark and psychologically disturbing. I don’t know how to categorize it. I suppose it fits the ‘Urban Fantasy’ label. Regardless of the genre, it is definitely worth the read, at least for older audiences.
I have been blown away by Connolly’s books. I started the Charlie Parker series because I thought jazz was involved. Boy was I wrong, but glad I was. Connolly knows people. I love his characters and the depth of their personalities. I recommend him highly. He has become my favourite writer.
One of my most favorite authors; always a treat when he publishes a new novel
