Great news for fans of Peter May and his award winning series The Lewis Trilogy, as it is set to become a tetralogy with the announcement of a fourth novel in the series.
Readers last visited The Isle of Lewis in 2012, with what was thought to be the conclusion of the series featuring Fin MacLeod in The Chessmen, however, after a decade, the detective will return to the island with a brand new mystery to solve with a strong personal touch.
Titled “The Black Loch”, it begins with the mysterious death of eighteen-year-old TV personality Caitlin, whose body is discovered on a secluded beach near An Loch Dubh, also known as the Black Loch. Due to her prowess as a swimmer and canoeist, the circumstances of Caitlin’s death are suspicious, pointing towards foul play rather than an accidental drowning.
Why would this interest Fin MacLeod? Well his son Fionnlagh has been having a secret affair with Caitlin, and is now being accused of murdering her. Fin and Marsali head back to the Isle of Lewis in an attempt to clear his name. But in true Peter May fashion, nothing is as simple as it seems.
Peter May’s signature blend of suspense and vividly described settings promises to immerse readers in a gripping narrative that explores the complex layers of community, secrecy, and loss. The novel not only revisits the haunting beauty of the Outer Hebrides but also delves into the personal dilemmas faced by Fin Macleod as he confronts past and present demons.
The Glaswegian author, who recently won the prestigious Dagger in the Library award, also saw the first novel in the series, “The Blackhouse”, win the Best Novel award at the Barry Awards. “The Blackhouse”, which was also nominated as the Best Mystery/Crime Novel of the Decade at the Barrys, is the most read book by Peter on Book Notification.
