Nothing beats the Lewis Trilogy. I tell everyone I know that if you want MUST READING then the Lewis Trilogy is that.
One of the best trilogies of all time.
I loved the backstory to Lockdown though and how everyone rejected it for being unrealistic. Then hey COVID happens and suddenly it’s realistic and a hot item! The book itself was pretty good – not one of my favourite works by Peter.
Seriously everyone you need to read the Lewis Trilogy. Words cannot do this series justice and I see that the Blackhouse won awards. No surprise – trust the critics lol.
Peter May is a new author I’ve just discovered. Why have I not checked out any of his work before now? Read The Black House, and enjoyed it so much that I bought the other two in the trilogy.
The storylines, the style of writing, the characters, but most of all the wonderful feel for the Hebridean Islands and Lewis especially. You can feel, taste, and smell these wonderful islands. It makes you want to visit again. It’s rare that you get to read something this well written in a crime fiction novel.
Each of his sentences and every single word packs a punch. Some of them are unexpected and you need a bit to digest them.
People use the word ‘Spellbound’ a little too frequently when describing books. Personally, I had never encountered an author that left me spellbound until I came across Peter May.
He’s basically a Jedi master. But instead of a lightsaber, he wields the English language. I can see, hear, and feel Scotland’s landscape in his novels. You can feel the pounding fury of the ocean on a stormy night, smell the crisp air on a cold morning, taste the heat on a hot day.
You can’t claim to have lost yourself in a novel until you’ve read May’s Lewis Trilogy or the other standalone books he has written over the years. This man’s writing does so many things to the senses.
Almost finished reading A Winter Grave. Normally wouldn’t post anything until I’d finished the book, but this one just keeps me moving along with its past and future (2051) chapters. Characters, surroundings are well developed and described. I was pleased that the technology in the future is not beyond the possible.
