Along with a good mystery with plenty of twists, Faye’s work also provides interesting information on modern orthadox Judaism and Jewish faith, which she weaves into the novel’s story line flawlessly. She’ll explain the meanings behind certain celebrations and different words and you end up looking things up that you don’t understand, helping you to learn more.
Another unique element of her work is the family interplay between Peter Decker, Rina Lazarus, and the kids. These characters feel so real, that you want to know more about what they’ve got going on.
She also reveals some pretty twisted criminal misadventures that are committed by some real psychos.
I was astounded to learn that Faye Kellerman and Jonathan Kellerman are both novelists as well as husband and wife. If that wasn’t shocking enough, Jesse Kellerman, their son, is also a novelist.
I don’t know why the revelation is so amusing. I just find it difficult to believe. I started with Jonathan – I’ve read everything he’s ever written. Then he led me to Faye and Jesse. I haven’t read Jesse’s books.
I may get to them someday. I don’t know anything about his work, not even the genre in which he writes. But I like Faye. So far, I’ve only read ‘The Ritual Bath.’ It provided a lot of fascinating insight into the rituals of Judaism.
I always enjoy reading a Faye Kellerman novel. She provides a unique perspective into the story through the lens of spouse, family and orthodox Judiasm which adds layers of depth and interest to the ‘who done it?’ I find the peek into the cultural / religious aspect fascinating and appreciate the way she adds sex into the story through the filter of a committed loving marriage. Its an unusual position among top selling authors and refreshing (John Lescroart is the only other one doing this that I’m aware of).
