I was perplexed by Sheila Connolly’s decisions when I started reading the County Cork books. Like every cozy mystery, this one had a great setting and a bevy of interesting side characters. But Meg, the protagonist, was so unlikeable. She had a negative attitude that kept ruining the tone.
I couldn’t understand why Connolly was going out of her way to sabotage her story. But as the series went on, I remembered why novels are so great. They give readers the opportunity to explore every stage of a character’s journey as they develop.
I am now fully invested in Meg, and I’ve enjoyed watching her grow. This adventure is worth undertaking.
