I guess Ellie writes cozy mysteries? I don’t know. I don’t understand these categories, and it doesn’t matter because the mysteries have never attracted me to Ellie’s novels. I re-read A Cup of Holiday Fear the other day, and it reminded me of the author’s incredible talent for describing food, settings, and characters.
I can see every brick in Torte in my mind’s eye, smell every meal, hear every voice. No other author has made me feel this way. If you opened a magical door to Torte and asked me to abandon my current life for that fictional setting, I wouldn’t hesitate. I have never come across a more vivid series of novels.
I’ve known Ellie Alexander for creating tasty cozy mystery stories. I’m a huge fan of mystery books, and I can assure you that Ellie novels are great. Her characters are always well developed, and the world-building is on point. So far, I’ve read a list of her books, including the entire ‘A Bakeshop Mystery’ series and ‘Pacific Northwest Mysteries’, and I’m planning on starting the ‘Sloan Krause series’. ‘Scene of the Climb’ is just an adorable read, and it’s the kind of story that you’ll want to keep reading. The actions are fast, and a lot is going on, and people appear to have something to hide from Meg. Having been hiking before, I was so interested in the book because I’m a little familiar with the equipment and the safety measure needed.
I have enjoyed reading a couple of Ellie’s Sloane Krause cozy mysteries. Haven’t started reading any of her Bakeshop Mysteries but am looking forward to starting them. I really enjoy her writing style and she is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors.
