You know what? Let me be the odd man out and say that I don’t read Donna Andrews’ cozy mystery novels for the mysteries. I read them for the cast. She does an incredible job of populating her fictional settings with Zany characters.
When we first meet Meg Langslow in Murder with Peacocks, I immediately understood her desire to escape her crazy family. I laughed out loud when she tried to get away from them in Murder with Puffins only to run into the lot on a tiny island in Maine. Even worse, a hurricane had marooned them all.
These are the kinds of shenanigans I look for in the cozy mysteries I read. I can find engaging mysteries in other genres. I read cozy mysteries because the characters are so much fun.
I absolutely love the Meg Langslow series. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Her family is so eccentric and therefore interesting.
