I am a huge fan of Regency era romance novels and this makes Johanna Lindsey one of my favorite romance authors of all time.
Lindsey’s novels span several eras of history including the American Old West, and the Middle Ages. But it is the Malory-Anderson Family series, a Regency saga set in England which has always been my favorite.
Lindsey writes delightful characters and engaging story lines that always have me literally laughing out loud and very entertained.
Of all Malory-Anderson Family series novels, Gentle Rogue has to be Johanna Lindsey’s very best that I have read it countless times. What I love about the story is that the leads spend a lot of time together which makes them fall in love even more.
Unlike her peers in the genre, Lindsey goes beyond love at first sight in the novel as she develops her characters into likable and well developed people that make their love choices with rational thought.
I won’t apologize for laughing at Johanna Lindsey’s cover art. Granted, she started writing fiction in the 80s, an era known for its gaudy designs. The author’s earliest works are a stark representation of that era, and I’m sure she would join us in laughing at all the bare-chested men on the covers of her books.
I think I enjoy these novels because they are completely new to me. I am not re-reading Lindsey’s work. This is my first encounter with her books, and the novelty makes them extremely entertaining because the modern authors I’ve encountered do not write romance of this kind.
I suppose the genre has become more sophisticated over the decades. However, I am tired of modern romance tropes. They are boring. IN a way, Lindsey’s dated stories are refreshing.
I have read numerous books by Johanna Lindsey. I think I am tired of them as I am not enjoying them as much. They seem to have the same story but I suppose all romance novels set in that era really are the same story.
