Bruce Dickinson

Bruce Dickinson was born on August 7th, 1958 and is currently 68 years old. Bruce Dickinson was born in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England.

Bruce Dickinson is the front man of Iron Maiden over two stints, from 1981 to 1993, and when he rejoined the group in 1999. He’s known for his wide-ranging vocal style and his energetic stage presence. Bruce has also recorded multiple solo albums and been with Samson, a new wave of British heavy metal band.

The Beatles' single “She Loves You” was the first record he recalls owning, which further piqued his interest in music. He attempted to play an acoustic guitar that belonged to his dad; however, it blistered his fingers.

Oundle, a boarding school, was where he became attracted to progressive rock and early heavy metal after he heard “Child in Time” by Deep Purple playing in another student’s room. As a result, the first album he ever bought was “In Rock” by Deep Purple, creating an interest in metal and rock music.

He began his music career fronting small pub bands during the 70s as he attended school in Sheffield and university in London.

He recalls playing “Let It Be” with a buddy, which is when he discovered his singing voice while encouraging his friend to sing the high notes.

Bruce joined his first band after hearing two pupils at his new school talking about their band and how they needed a singer, so he volunteered right away.

In 1979, he joined Samson, with whom he gained some popularity under the name of “Bruce Bruce” and recorded 2 albums with.

He quit Samson to replace Paul Di’Anno, debuting on their third album, called “Number of the Beast”. During his first tenure with Maiden, they released a series of UK and US platinum and gold albums during the 80s and early 90s.

In 1993, he quit Iron Maiden (with Blaze Bayley replacing him) in order to pursue a solo career, which saw him experiment with a wide variety of rock and heavy metal styles.

Bruce undertook a career as a commercial pilot for Astraeus Airlines, which led to numerous media-reported ventures like captaining Iron Maiden’s converted charter airplane, called Ed Force One, during their world tours.

After Astraeus’ closure, he created Cardiff Aviation, his own aircraft maintenance and pilot training company.

In What Does This Button Do?, Bruce contemplates the rollercoaster of his life. He recounts, in his uniquely anarchic voice, the explosive exploits of his eccentric British childhood, summoning the powers of darkness, the meteoric rise of Iron Maiden, the philosophy of fencing, firmly dismissing cancer like an uninvited guest, and brutishly beautiful Boeings.

Bruce Dickinson, the frontman of Iron Maiden, is one of the world’s most iconic songwriters and singers. However, there are many strings to his bow, of which a larger-than-life lead vocalist is merely one. He’s an airline captain, motivational speaker, aviation entrepreneur, novelist, beer brewer, film scriptwriter, radio presenter, and international fencer. Truly one of the most interesting and unique men in the entire world.

This long-awaited memoir is brilliant, honest, bold, and funny, and captures the heart, life, and mind of a true rock icon, and is guaranteed to inspire hardcore fans and curious souls alike.
