Shadow and Bone is a Netflix series based on the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo. The first season of the show adapts Shadow and Bone while also adding some original elements. The second season covers Siege and Storm and also adds original elements.

The series stars Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux as Malyen "Mal" Oretsev, and Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker.     Leigh Bardugo is tricky. She writes novels that seemingly embrace all the common YA tropes. And that puts a lot of people off, especially if YA isn’t their cup of tea. But those who persevere will appreciate the genius of Bardugo’s stories.

    I would argue that the Shadow and Bone TV adaptation is more exciting but only because it is faster-paced. The books have more depth because Bardugo takes the time to flesh out the world.

    I love the Russian bits. They add an exotic element to the story. Some of my Russian friends have complained about the Russian grammatical errors. I suppose I would care if I spoke Russian. But I don’t
