    Leigh Bardugo is tricky. She writes novels that seemingly embrace all the common YA tropes. And that puts a lot of people off, especially if YA isn’t their cup of tea. But those who persevere will appreciate the genius of Bardugo’s stories.

    I would argue that the Shadow and Bone TV adaptation is more exciting but only because it is faster-paced. The books have more depth because Bardugo takes the time to flesh out the world.

    I love the Russian bits. They add an exotic element to the story. Some of my Russian friends have complained about the Russian grammatical errors. I suppose I would care if I spoke Russian. But I don’t
