The first Melissa Foster novel I read left an odd taste in my mouth – I think it was ‘Tru Blue.’ I got the sense that Foster was just recycling tried and tested tropes to attract the many thirsty readers the romance genre has cultivated over the years.
You had an attractive bearded, tattooed hero with a heart of gold falling for a kind heroine that wanted nothing more than to support him. The setup was strong, but the payoff was lackluster.
Having read a few more novels from the author since then, I am starting to change my tune. Even though many of her covers are a perfect fit for the romance section of my local library, some of them bleed into ‘Women’s fiction’ territory.
They have depth. Foster spends far more time than you would expect developing her characters and their relationships with one another. Her stories are not merely an excuse to write long, tedious sex scenes.
Wrote a bio of the Harmony Pointe series with information on Melissa I wanted to share:

She uses the pen name Addison Cole when she writes sweet romantic stories that are clean family reading. Ms. Foster’s is very family oriented, enjoying beach life on the Cape Cod, reading, painting, and spending time with friends.
The Harmony Pointe series is a sexy-sweet spin-off of Ms. Foster’s Sugar Lake series. Enjoy Harmony Pointe as a set of standalone romance stories or as an addition to her larger Love in Bloom series.
In Harmony Pointe a woman will find love or it will find her. Whether she is looking for it… or not.
The Dalton siblings are going to discover they are next to get carried away by love in Harmony Pointe. It’s where the lost and found includes hearts, or maybe they’re misplaced. In Harmony Pointe everyone gets a HEA. (Happily Ever After)
In the first book in the Harmony Pointe series, Call Her Mine, Ben Dalton is an honest man, except where his own heart is concerned. He has been forever in love with his best friend. Aurelia Stark is smart-mouthed and saucy. Ben is far from impulsive; he’s a planner and takes his time. Right when he makes his move, Aurelia, who is quicker, made a move of her own… to a different town.
Aurelia has found a town she loves living in. Harmony Pointe is charming and friendly. She’s found the perfect apartment and now has her own bookstore. And she’s totally relieved to be away from her non-available crush. Now she can move on to someone else.
When Ben open’s his front door and sees a baby left on the porch he immediately thinks of his bestie. Aurelia is there to help. This baby is presumably his and he has no idea who the mother is.
Ben and Aurelia vault into the baby world of laughter, love, and drool. They work together tracking down the baby mama. There may be a happily ever after along the way.
Ms. Foster’s second book in the Harmony Pointe series, This Is Love, gives us new characters to fall in love with. Actress and bodyguard clash with high energy and racing emotions.
Remi Divine is a famous actress with the typical accouterments of fame- the car, the wardrobe, the house, and the crazy fans. She has it all, except the her bodyguard. That’s who she really wants.
Remi is sick and tired of stalkers, of being under the social microscope, and of the bodyguards who constantly surrounding her and monitoring her every move. That makes her seem helpless. She’s NOT helpless.
Remi is a stubborn girl. That sense of rebellion got her where she is. Now she’s going to use it to get what she wants. First task: get rid of those sticky bodyguards.
Mason Swift’s business is protecting others. He hires the best to work for him. When Remi Divine managed to ditch his best two guys he knew he had to do the job himself.
Mason’s experience having grown up as a foster kid in the system and special operative later on, he knows all the tricks and nothing will surprise him. Especially a pretty, sneaky little gal like Remi Divine.
To Mason, she’s a diva. To Remi, he’s arrogant. What neither expected was for sparks to fly and flames turning up and their walls around their hearts coming down, their true connection is apparent.
Along the way, banging heads, Remi comes to the realization when danger looms, having Mason as a bodyguard is a good thing. Losing him would be the end of her world.
Ms. Foster’s third book in the Harmony Pointe series, She Loves Me, it’s the story of best friends falling or not falling in love with each other.
Piper Dalton is feeling off, a bit out of balance and she’s not quite sure why. Her siblings are happily married with their forever loves.
While her sisters were dreaming of their white weddings and hearth and home, Piper was going through a series of heartbreaks with commitment phobic loves. She a woman standing out in the male-dominated construction industry. Piper’s sure not going to turn in her hammer for a chef’s knife.
Harley Dutch is big, burley, and tough-as-nails. He’s dad to two pre-teen nieces and he needs his friendship with Piper. Piper is sassy and she’s no caregiver but she and the girls get on well enough. He’s been devoted to her for many years but he can’t seem to get her interested enough.
Amazingly, things are starting to cook between the two. Piper is warning him not to fall in love with her because she will likely break his heart. He thinks he can be patient and stay in for the long haul to make it work. Then he makes a huge mistake that puts the goal of making the two of them workout together forever seriously in doubt that true love wins all.
