I enjoy Kathleen’s work. When I was young, an older relative would always hide her books whenever we visited. I snuck a peek at them in my teens, but they were not quite as scandalous as I expected. They don’t provide the sort of explicit sex that is rife in modern romance.

As an adult, my appreciation for the author has grown because of my knowledge of her past. The publishing industry initially rejected her novels because they had actual sex scenes, which was rare at the time.

With that in mind, Kathleen’s books feel like a piece of history. Whenever I read her work, I cannot help but think about the embarrassment people felt back then whenever they cracked one of her novels open. She stands out even among contemporary authors because her books are so long and substantial, at least in comparison to the average romance novel.
