Tyrus
Tyrus (George Murdoch) was born on February 21st, 1973 and is currently 52 years old. Tyrus was born in Boston, MA, USA.
Tyrus is most well-known as both a personality on Fox TV and a professional wrestler.
In his college years, Tyrus played football for the Nebraska–Kearney Lopers while attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney. While there, he was studying to be a teacher. Unfortunately, while undergoing surgery for a ruptured appendix, complications occurred to the nerve endings in his legs, and following the surgery, he had a permanent limp. This would end his football career.
He signed up with WWE in 2006 and performed in the developmental territories. He started out in Deep South Wrestling as a street thug called G-Rilla, then worked with Florida Championship Wrestling. Tyrus was released from his contract but would sign up again two years later.
In 2010, he started working in Florida Championship Wrestling again as Brodus Clay, a clever play on Snoop Dogg's real name, Calvin Cordozar Broadus. Coincidentally, Tyrus has previously provided bodyguard work for the 'Doggfather'.
Following his NXT stint, Clay showed up on WWE TV as the bodyguard of Alberto Del Rio on March 7th, 2011. He reached the heights of his popularity in 2012 as the Funkasaurus, where he was a dancing character. He would remain with WWE until June 12th, 2024, when he was released.
He first took on the Tyrus name in TNA Wrestling, where he signed after leaving the WWE. He wrestled there until 2018, then had a successful stint in the NWA, where he won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. During that period, he reached as high as #58 on the PWI Top 500 list.
His TV career began in 2016 when he appeared as a guest commentator on
The Greg Gutfeld Show. He co-hosted
Un-PC and also his own show,
Nuff Said. He also hosted
Fox News Saturday Night in 2023.
Tyrus has also played roles in film & TV, appearing in the movies
No One Lives and
Supercon, and on TV in shows such as
GLOW,
Preacher, and
Macgyver.
His first book released was "Just Tyrus". This was a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller and a memoir about his life. In the first week of release, it was #1 on Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
It talks bout his childhood, growing up the product of a mixed marriage, and how he had to learn how to fight at an early age due to people bullying him about his race. It's a great story about how dysfunctional his life was at home all through his teens, where he had to couch-surf at various homes, and how he turned all of that into a success later in life.
Tyrus followed that up with "Nuff Said" in 2023. In this follow up, he dives into his various life experiences in more detail, and how they all connect with the pressing issues going on in the world. He attempts to address a current societal issue while adding a story from his life which connects to it.
