Michael Mould, a Kent State University student, started working on a translation of
Pagliacci, an opera, for a comics adaptation in English. However he died on USAir Flight 405 before he was able to finish it. So Marc finished it up as
The Clowns, a one shot illustrated by Galen Showman and written by P. Craig Russell. It was finally released in 1998 by Dark Horse Comics and is dedicated in Gould’s memory.
In 2004, he started writing DC’s
Manhunter series, relaunching it with this third volume, where he (along with Jesus Saiz, an artist) introduced Kate Spencer, the first ever woman to take on the long running “Manhunter” mantle. He also created Damon Matthews, a civilian business partner of Kate’s, who is in a romantic relationship with Obsidian, a superhero. It’s one of the very few gay-identified couples in mainstream superhero comics.
Torso was nominated for the Prize Scenario (script) and the Angouleme International Comics Festival Prize Awarded by the Audience.
Torso tells the true story of the hunt for America’s first serial killer. It is the story of Eliot Ness’ hunt for Cleveland’s torso killer, America’s first serial killer.
Cleveland in 1935. Eliot Ness, fresh off of his legendary Chicago triumph of taking down Al Capone and all his associates, set his sights on Cleveland. He went on this crusade which matched, and sometimes it even surpassed, his previous accomplishments.
However dismembered body parts began washing up in this concentrated area of Lake Erie Sound. These headless torsos which left zero clues as to their identity or their reason for death. Eliot Ness along with his colorful gang of The Unknowns hunted this killer down through the underbelly of Cleveland for years. But as far as the public was concerned, he never was captured. However what actually happened is far more shocking.
It won the 1999 Eisner Award for Comic Book Excellence.
Let Me In: Crossroads tells the further story of Abby. Her life as a vampire was dangerous enough already, and it will soon get so much worse. As the murder rate in the sleepy small town that she calls home is climbing rather quickly. And this time she’s not even the one responsible.
Desperate times lead to some rather desperate measures while she and her caretaker battle to protect her secret from this new monster that wants their home, and wants them both dead.
