Carl’s work is just great fun. His novel Stormy Weather is one of his best, and one of my absolute favorites. First time I read it, I fell off the couch laughing. Cannot recommend the novel enough to other people.

While reading Lucky You it was easy to imagine it being made into quite the hysterical film. Skin Tight and Skinny Dip are both incredible reads that are sure to get you laughing as well. Even The Downhill Lie is an incredible read, whether you are a golf fan or not.

Squeeze Me was another great read. Mastodon and his wife were incredibly realistic that only Carl could create.

My first encounter with Carl Hiaasen’s work was ‘Hoot.’ I think I watched the movie. I can’t be sure. My friend’s son is obsessed with it. He talks about it so much that I honestly can’t tell whether I watched it or if everything I know about the adaptation comes from our conversations.

It doesn’t matter. Clearly, it wasn’t that good of a movie if I can’t remember it. The book is a different matter. I was so dismissive of ‘Hoot’ when I sat down to read it because an online review used words like ‘YA’ and ‘Feel Good’ to describe it.

‘Hoot’ was both of those things. However, I still loved it. At some point, I stopped rolling my eyes and started paying attention. This is one of those rare books that children and adults will love in equal measure.
