Watching the adaptations based off of Agatha’s work, it’s interesting who gets cast to play her famous detectives.

Personally, I found Albert Finney to be fine as Poirot, but loved Peter Ustinov in the role. Obviously, David Suchet does such a fantastic job of bringing the character to life and embodying the character. It’s just too bad that so much was done to try bringing Kenneth Branagh’s version to the twenty-first century that a lot ends up lost.

When it comes to Miss Marple, I can’t think of anybody playing the character beyond Angela Lansbury who did such a fine job in “The Mirror Crack’d” adaptation.

Agatha Christie is an exceptional author whose works I have always found to unsettling, exhilarating and ingeniously constructed.
My favorite Agatha Christie novel has for the longest time been And Then There Were None in which she comes up with a well constructed story that tugs at the heart even as it disorients the brain.
What makes Agatha my favorite author is her exceptional skill at playing with her readers with the finesse and delicacy of an expert angler. The experience of reading a Christie novel whether it be a Miss Marple or a Poirot work is like living in a nightmare where it is impossible to orient oneself.
And Then There Were None is a harrowing and unrelenting novel set in the creepy and hermetic world of Soldier Island which makes for a thriving petri dish of distortion and foreboding. What first appears as a thriller turns out to be more perilous. Christie perfectly imbues her stories with well observed psychological depth and this could not be any more evident than with And Then There Were None.

Agatha Christie is the creator of the two most enduring figures in crime literature- Miss Jane Marple and Hercule Poirot
She’s also the writer of one of the most extended plays in the history of modern theater.
And Then There Were None is the book that aroused my love for mystery stories.
Its uniqueness lies between the poem, the twists, the deserted Island, and the suspense.
The book explores all walks of life and personalities you may love or hate.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out, Christie proved me wrong with the twists.
The setup and mystery are well structured to engage easily.

Perhaps the Grand Dame of murder mysteries, Christie’s works have been entertaining fans for decades since their original releases. I picked up one of her books on a whim thinking why not try and start at the beginning of the genre; it was an excellent read, still sharp and intriguing even all this time later. I read a couple more of her books and some short stories, and they were all crisply written and kept you guessing up until the end. Even though some of the writing and situations may be outdated today, they are still worth a read even beyond a historical perspective. And it goes without saying that you can catch one of the many adaptations of her work in multiple places.

I’m a little sad that my appreciation for Agatha Christie manifested so late in life. In my school, we read her work every week. But it was a chore. The teachers did not care. They needed something to keep us busy on Friday afternoon, and the library had plenty of Agatha Christie novels.

Today, as an adult, I finally understand the hype. Her stories are gripping. The mysteries are simple but also vexing. I enjoy piecing the pieces together. But most of the people in my social circle prefer high fantasy. They spend their days reading 1000-page tomes.

They cannot appreciate the elegance of a 264-page book like ‘And Then There Were None.’ This is why I miss those old days when my classmates and I had no choice but to discuss Agatha Christie for two hours on a Friday afternoon.

I have read so many of her books I have no idea! which ones anymore. I would go to the library and get 3 or 4 at a time and read, read, read 🙂 I have moved on to other authors (of course) but she wrote fantastic stories!!!! Loved them all.

Agatha Christie has been my favorite author since I was about 12 or 13 years old. I believe I’ve read almost all of her books. Only this past week, I learned that “The Mirror Crack’d” was made into a movie around 1980-1981, starring Angela Lansbury (my favorite actress, and I’m also a Jessica Fletcher fan – may she rest in peace), Elizabeth Taylor, and Rock Hudson, among other notable actors! I never knew it and had never seen it, so I watched it yesterday, and it did not disappoint!

Death on the Nile is one of my favorites. Agatha Christie never fails to please me. I think I have read everyone of her books and will continue to reread them.
