Ken Auletta
Ken Auletta (Kenneth B. Auletta) was born on April 23rd, 1942 and is currently 82 years old. Ken Auletta was born in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Auletta attended Syracuse University where he received an M.A. in political science. He also attended the State University of New York at Oswego.
Ken Auletta is a political columnist for the
New York Daily News, an American author, and a media critic for the
New Yorker.
During his time in grad school, he taught and trained Peace Corps volunteers. But he got bored in a PhD political science program and left so he could be a gofer and write these speeches in politics; then on to serve in government, where he worked for then Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 presidential campaign manager for ex-Administrator of the Small Business Administration Howard J. Samuels’ failed ‘74 gubernatorial campaign.
After Samuels was defeated, Ken became a daily reporter for the
New York Post in 1974. After that, he wrote for
The Village Voice, and was a politics writer at New York. He started contributing to
The New Yorker in 1977, penning a 2-part article about New York City Mayor Ed Koch in 1978. Ken also wrote this weekly political column for the
New York Daily News and was a political commentator on WCBS-TV.
In 1986, he was given the Gerald Loeb Award for Large Newspapers. He won a National Magazine Award for Profile Writing for his piece on Ted Turner, called “The Lost Tycoon” in 2001.
Hollywood Ending: Harvey Weinstein and the Culture of Silence is a vivid biography about Harvey and how he rose to become one of the dominant figures of the film world. How he was able to use this position in order to feed his monstrous sexual appetites, and how all of it came crashing down.
Ken wrote an iconic
New Yorker profile about Harvey, then at the height of his powers. It made waves for exposing how volatile, even how violent, Harvey could be to his collaborators and employees. However there was a much darker tale just out of reach: rumors had long been swirling that Harvey was this sexual predator. Ken confronted Harvey about this, who just denied the claims. Since nobody was willing to go on record about it, Ken and the magazine just could not close this case.
But years later, he was able to share his knowledge and reporting notes with Ronan Farrow; and cheered when Ronan, along with Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor revealed the truth finally.
In pursuit of answers, Ken digs into Weinstein’s life, searching for the mysteries under a film career unparalleled for its creative success and extraordinary talent which combined with a personal viciousness and brutality to leave a trail of ruined lives in its wake.
