The first novel of Iris Johansen’s I read was a stand alone novel The Ugly Duckling, and got hooked on it right from the start. It is easy to get caught up in Nell’s story where she emerges from under the knife and exacting revenge on those that caused her suffering.
Johansen also brings her character of Eve Duncan, who is a forensic sculptor able to help identify the dead from their skulls, brilliantly to life in an incredibly fun series. She is a compelling character and you can’t help but get caught up in the adventures she winds up in.
I first read Vendetta by Iris Johansen last year as I thought I might just like her work. My gut was right and I really liked reading about Eve Duncan the forensic sculptor.
I started with the fast moving novel The Killing Game that opens with Eve and a young child are in danger. There is also some romantic element to the novel which adds some spice to the story.
Smokescreen was recently gifted to me and I thought it would be better for me to start from the beginning which is why I got Face of Deception.
In reading the novel, I got to know Eve as the complex character who refuses to be broken even when she is saddened by grief.
Eve is a highly motivated woman that will do anything to showcase her dedication and skill.
Iris Johansen’s Eve Duncan series has a lovely storyline with a decent mystery and suspense that will keep you glued to your seat, turning pages. The fascinating characters are well developed from the beginning to the end. In the debut novel of the series, the story flowed so well and caught my attention from the first page. The Face of Deception is a thrilling, engaging, and surprising read, and I highly recommend it. Eve is an admirable character, and despite her terrible childhood and the pain of losing her child, she is still strong. I found Sedikhan Series fascinating with wonderful hero and heroine. I’m looking forward to reading more books thanks to this list of books by Iris Johansen.
Iris Johansen’s books are far better than I expected. Granted, I haven’t read them all. In fact, I had no idea how many books Iris had written until I saw this list. Clearly, she’s been busy.
The Eve Duncan books had me worried. This is where I started. I only bought ‘The Face of Deception’ because I watched ‘The Killing Game’ adaptation and liked it.
Also, I love the idea of a forensic sculptor. I had no idea forensic sculpting was a thing until I came across Iris’ stories. But the concept concerned me because I have encountered several mediocre authors in the past who thought that a unique idea and a quirky protagonist were enough to produce a decent novel. They were wrong.
Fortunately, my fears were unfounded because the Eve Duncan books are competently written thrillers with decent mysteries and well-rounded characters. Eve’s role as a forensic sculptor is one small piece in a much bigger puzzle.
Chasing the Night connects both Eve Duncan, forensic sculptor, and Catherine Ling, CIA agent. Both have children who were kidnapped and they make a mighty duo. Excellent book and series.
Just finished The Persuasion. Didn’t catch my interest like other Iris Johansen books have. Too much extra info that got in the way of the storyline for me.
