Erica and Patrik are two of Camilla’s finest creations, and is the best series that she writes, hands down. Camilla has an outstanding writing style and has got a command of the English language.
The books must be read in order so that you are able to see the characters develop over the course of them. Many long running stories that pop up from time to time which take multiple novels to get resolved.
Each story is beautiful, with a lot of turns and twists, and right when you believe that you have figured it all out, there is one more secret that is revealed and turns it all on end.
There is something about that Scandinavian winter that makes it the perfect place for a murder mystery. They always seem so much darker and atmospheric, and the books of Camilla Läckberg prove this to be true. She is a true master of the genre known as Scandinavian noir.
Looking through the Camilla Läckberg book list to pick a favorite isn’t easy, but I think I have to go with The Stonecutter as my all time number one.
Patrik and Erica are celebrating the birth of their first born when Patrik gets a close that is close to home. A young girl they knew well has drowned under mysterious circumstances and Patrik sets out to find out why. The personal element really adds to the story and the icy waters really add to the darkness.
This list is a godsend. I started reading Nordic noir a little while ago. After a strong start, I received a lot of lackluster recommendations from people whose tastes I’m beginning to question. I was just starting to wonder where else I should go to find decent Nordic noir when I stumbled across this page during a random Google search.
I took it as a sign, pointed at a random novel on the list (The Preacher), and bought it. I rarely make such spontaneous decisions, but it worked out incredibly because I cannot get over how much I loved ‘The Preacher.’
I appreciated the deliberate pacing, the time we spent exploring the detectives’ lives, and the thought-provoking mystery. Some people hate mystery novels that delve into the lives of the protagonists.
But personally, I need to care about the detectives before investing in their efforts to solve the mystery. Camilla did not disappoint me. I think she’s my favorite Nordic noir author at the moment.
