The Millenium series was adapted into a six-part miniseries for Swedish television on SVT1. The series was an expansion from the 2009 movies and also starred Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace. The show was well received and won the International Emmy Award for Best TV Movie or Miniseries in 2011. The Millenium series was first adapted for film by the Swedish production company Yellow Bird. They released film versions of the first three novels in the series in 2009 with Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace playing the lead roles. Hollywood eventually came calling for an adaptation as well. David Fincher directed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo from a screenplay by Steven Zaillian in 2011. The film starred Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander. The movie was well received by critics and earned over $200 million at the box office. Rooney Mara earned a Best Actress at the Academy Awards while the film itself won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. The success of that film lead to speculation about a sequel. There were originally plans for Fincher, Zaillian, and Mara to return, but those never ended up happening. Instead, Fede Alvarez directed 2018's The Girl in the Spider's Web with Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander. The movie received mixed reviews and was a box office disappointment.

I finally read the first novel in Larsson’s Millennium series, and it wasn’t what I expected. The adaptations failed to impress me. I don’t know why, but I thought the characters were dull, and the mystery was unengaging.
The book (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) is another story. Is this the best-written novel I’ve ever read? No, it isn’t. But you can’t blame the author. After all, this is a translation.
Nonetheless, Larsson did a better job of bringing the story to life in my imagination than the movie. The concepts were essentially the same, but the novel gave the story plenty of time to breathe without ruining the pacing, unlike the movie.
Don’t remember how I found Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but once started couldn’t put it down. Read the next two the same way. Those not directly written by him don’t hold up but don’t let that stop you from enjoying the first three. Truly must read books
The 1st book took a 100 pages to get into but couldn’t put 2 and 3 down!
