Steve Dublanica
Steve Dublanica is best known as a former waiter in New York who rose to fame through his bestselling memoir and his insider blog
Waiter Rant.
But he was not always a waiter, as he started as a psychiatric healthcare worker and seminary student. He was 31 when he began waiting tables in New York. Frustrated by job instability and workplace stress, he launched his blog in 2004, where he provided darkly humorous and candid stories about restaurant life.
Dublanica’s blog won the Best Writing in a Weblog Bloggie Award in 2006. By 2008, his identity as a waiter came out when his blog
Waiter Rant was released as a memoir. In the work, he tells stories ranging from coworker antics to customer behavior to how diners can avoid getting blacklisted.
Steve Dublanica has appeared on many prestigious media outlets, including Good Morning America, Today, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. He has also appeared in the Wall Street Journal, People, and Forbes, in addition to other outlets, where he has spoken on behalf of more than 2 million American waiters.
Now retired from the job that made him popular, Steve Dublanica lives with Buster, his dog, in the metropolitan area of New York.
In his first work,
Waiter Rant, Steve Dublanica writes a memoir inspired by WaiterRant.net, his blog.
For seven years, he waited tables at a fancy restaurant in New York, and he uses this story to share gross and wild stories about bad bosses, chaotic kitchens, and rude customers. He also provides readers with advice on how to get good service.
He also explains how working as a waiter was life-changing, as he provides insights into restaurant life.
In
Keep the Change, Steve Dublanica tells of his journey across the United States, where he learns all about tipping. He shares stories about all kinds of service jobs from strippers, waiters, hotel attendants, casino dealers, and bartenders.
He explains the origin of tipping and how much money and culture shape tipping habits. Dublanica laughs at awkward service moments, such as hearing strange rules and how service can suck, but still inspires good tips.
