Daniel’s newest novel The Cellist does a fantastic job of weaving in some real life events into the novel which make it feel vivid and real, maybe too much so. This is fairly true of many of Silva’s novels, too. He always ensures that his research is right on at all times.
Have been reading Silva’s work since checking out The Black Widow, and have loved every single moment from his book list since. Those that have never read one of his novels, you are simply missing out on one of the very best authors of this generation. Check him out today, you won’t regret it.
Think I am tapping out on Silva after the Cellist. I’ve been losing interest for awhile now and just his interjection of politics etc – blah. BLAH!!!
I totally agree with you. I hope his newest book gets back to his old ways of telling a great story
In spite of the politics (much to the left) I will continue to read his books because the Allon Character himself is very much the action/super hero from Israel and I don’t see anything like it in the novel world.
Daniel Silva is one of the best writers of American spy novels full of international intrigue that I find brilliant, compelling, haunting and passionate.
I got introduced to Silva when I was lent The Unlikely Spy an electrifying novel of deception and love set in World War II France around the time of the allied invasion.
But my best Daniel Silva novel has to be The Kill Artist. It was the novel that introduced a lead I think has to be the most compelling and memorable character in contemporary fiction.
Gabriel Allon is a part time Israeli secret agent and sometime art restorer whose adventures begin in this novel.
I have since read more than ten titles in the series and I think Silva does an incredible job telling stories full of political intrigue, exotic settings and a little real world events and people.
Daniel Silva is a fiction author who creates a vivid and fascinating support cast in his books. I highly recommend the Gabriel Allon series to anyone who likes a mixture of exotic story settings and political intrigue with some highlights of real-world leaders. Silva creates such a fascinating main character, a once-Israeli assassin and a current well-known art restorer. The author develops the characters so well, making the story enjoyable and easy read. The actions and twists will keep the reader engaged to the last page. The Michael Osbourne Series is also a real spy thriller, and I’m looking forward to reading more of Daniel Silva’s work.
I read The Black Widow a few weeks ago and, for some reason, it suddenly hit me that the novel was the 16th in the series. You could feel the weight of the series on the back of this novel because Gabriel was on the verge of becoming Israel’s Secret Intelligence Service Chief.
I found myself thinking back to The Kill Artist when Gabriel was just an art expert trying to thwart a Palestinian plot. This is why long-running series are so incredible. They allow readers like me to enjoy the considerable growth characters like Gabriel have undergone.
Gabriel has been with us for over two decades now. You cannot help but treat him like a friend.
Daniel Silva, one of my favorite all-time authors. But I have to say I had lots of problems, reading the previous two books on the list. Too much politics and some criticisms of America but I have to say I just started his newest book the collectors, and so far I am enjoying it. I sincerely hope the trend with the politics doesn’t play an important part of the story. I love The parts of the stories that covers his personal life with his wife and kids and also his advancement as a very important spy while also doing his art restoration which are very interesting.
Every time I read a Gabriel Allon book by Daniel Silva, I get confused with things happening in the book and what I’m hearing on the news. That’s why I like these books so much – they are true to life.
Daniel Silva is my ‘go to’ writer, I’m always recommending his books. I love being educated about Israel and Jewish ways of thinking while I’m being enthralled by his spy stories. More please Daniel!
When very intelligent people write books, this is what we should expect. Daniel has an attention to detail and a love of art that jumps off the pages. Gabriel is the perfect protagonist and seems to always be one step ahead of both the bad guy and the reader. Fans of Bond, Bourne, Reacher and Rapp will love this series.
