I discovered Mariani because ‘The Alchemist’s Secret’ topped the Amazon charts at some point, and I make it a point to keep an eye on what the public is reading. Yes, I’m that kind of reader. I like to follow the bandwagon.
From my experience, if most readers are flocking towards a particular author, they must have some merit. Mariani did not disappoint. Admittedly, when I saw the title for his first novel (The Alchemist’s Secret), I expected something artistic, one of those literary works destined to win major awards down the line.
But The Alchemist’s Secret was far more interesting than that: fast-paced, action-packed, insane. I will experiment with serious literature from time to time, but I prefer fluffier, more exciting works like what Mariani writes.
