Steve Berry’s The Templar Legacy is an explosive, shocking and controversial novel that was my introduction to some of the best works in the mystery thriller genre. The novel is chock full of Vatican insider knowledge that changed my perspective on the relationship between wisdom and religion.
The Alexandria link is a good thriller even if I had to suspend belief at some of the concepts though Steve is definitely more believable as compared to the likes of say Clive Cussler. Berry also raises some interesting perspectives on the Israeli Palestinian conflict.
The Venetian Betrayal shows the uncanny ability Steve Berry has for weaving a fiction story from historical facts. He uses the same formula here to write an exceptional novel that kept us entertained on a 14 hour long road trip.
I did not expect an author like Steve Berry to write a series like the ‘Cotton Malone’ books. Maybe my reading habits are less comprehensive than I previously assumed. I expect former attorneys to write legal thrillers. I can’t remember the last time I read a legal thriller that wasn’t written by a former lawyer.
More importantly, I don’t remember the last time I encountered a former attorney who wasn’t writing legal thrillers. And yet, Steve Berry has chosen to ply his trade within the historical fiction genre.
Clearly, he’s good at it. Some people have compared him to Dan Brown, but I think he’s better. At the very least, he does a better job of weaving history into his stories.
Love the Cotton Malone book series. Someone had recommended that I should read Steve Berry’s books. I started reading them, but now I love listening to the audiobooks. The narration is awesome. He does Cotton’s voice so well. I have read the standalone books and they are really good. I haven’t listened to his latest one yet, but I plan on doing it soon.
Past Prologue – short story combination write with another author, Diana Gabaldon, which involved some time travel which isn’t “my thing” but since it was short, I finished it.
