When I started reading my first Santa Montefiore novel (The French Gardener), I honestly expected to hate it because several reviews said that the author’s portrayal of infidelity was disturbing. I suppose it was a little strange.
I could see the author’s perspective on the issue. But even if I couldn’t, I would have loved the novel all the same because the descriptions of the garden landscape were heavenly. I could see and smell every tree and flower. I don’t think I’ve ever come across such vividly descriptive language.
Santa might be the best author I’ve ever read. Or, at the very least, she has the best prose.
