Kate Morton’s books are like comfort food for me. I’m not saying that I only read them when I want to have a good time. I have other authors that play that role. Morton is different. I read her stories when I want to escape.
She has an incredible imagination that produces stories with intricate plots that tackle everything from betrayal to tragedy and second chances. Even though her premises are unique, each book follows a familiar pattern, which is why I find them comforting. I know what to expect.
The author loves to explore the past through a contemporary lens. Her books are filled with so much mystery. But they don’t generate the sort of anxiety that makes suspense and thriller novels anathema to me.
