If you ask me to describe Penny Reid’s novels, the first word that comes to mind is ‘Intoxicating.’ Are they original? I don’t think so. I read a lot of books. By ‘A lot,’ I mean hundreds every year. I have seen every plot you can imagine dozens of times. At this point in my life, nothing can surprise me.
But Penny Reid proves that you don’t need an original concept to tell compelling stories. The most astounding aspect of her books is the characters. The protagonists are not only fully realized but very likable. You would like nothing better than to have a long face-to-face chat with them. But since that can’t happen, you have to settle for reading about them in Penny’s books.
The more I read Penny Reid’s novels, the more I become addicted to them. Her books are feisty, smart and most importantly, funny. Kissing Tolstoy was my first novel by this author, and from the moment I turned the first age, I knew that it wouldn’t be the last. Penny is so talented in her descriptive writing, which gives enough details that the reader needs to know. Elements of Chemistry was a light-hearted story that kept me smiling from the beginning. I love Penny for writing one of my most favorite character, the unapologetic nerd. Numerous writers write about nerds, but Penny writes them in a totally unique way.
I am a confirmed Penny Reid fan.
