I don’t understand the hate Nicholas Sparks occasionally attracts. Did I cry while watching Dear John? Yes, I did. Who doesn’t bawl their eyes out while watching a Nicholas Sparks movie? The books are just as emotionally stirring. People complain that Sparks is emotionally manipulative. He goes out of his way to tug at the heartstrings of his readers. But why is that a bad thing? Sparks understands people. He understands love, loss, friendships, and relationships. I don’t know if his stories are inspired by personal experience. I wouldn’t mind sitting across the table from the author and picking his brain about the stories he writes. But alas, I can’t see that happening anytime soon.
I’ve read most of the Nicholas Sparks books. In the beginning they were really good and you wanted to keep reading. Some of them are predictable, although they still hold your interest. There were a few that I simply couldn’t get into as they felt a bit wordy. Overall have your tissue ready because he is very emotionally impactful.
