We spent a few months with a younger cousin when I was young. His parents would read books aloud to him during the final hours of the night. I enjoyed listening to their conversations. He would ask all sorts of questions, and they would always offer interesting answers.
Years later, I started reading Marsh for myself and found that I liked her more than Agatha Christie. That conclusion isn’t premature. I’ve read every novel Agatha Christie has ever written. But she’s never made me laugh, not like Marsh.
I know, it doesn’t make sense to praise a mystery author for her humor. But humor matters to me, and it made Marsh’s books far more enjoyable.
