More than three decades later, he published a memoir about his early life as a baseball player and his journey to becoming an MLB star, titled
I’m Keith Hernandez.
Hernandez writes about his early rise in the minor leagues, where he developed as a player before he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. He reflects on life in the minor leagues, struggles at the plate, long bus rides, and pressure from his father, managers, and teammates.
Along the way, he reflects on discipline, failure, confidence, and the many experiences that shaped his baseball career.
In 2021, Keith Hernandez took his readers to the press box, locker room, and dugout of the New York Mets in the book
If These Walls Could Talk.
He draws from his work as a journalist with the New York Post and interviews with team personnel, coaches, and players.
Keith writes about the team's struggles and successes, including the careers of players such as Jacob deGrom, David Wright, and Mike Piazza, the 2000 Subway Series, and the Bobby Valentine-Tom Glavine feud.
Overall, it is a collection of insider stories about memorable moments, personalities, games, and decisions.
