I don’t think anyone can call Kate’s death at the age of 89 a tragedy. She lived a long life. I discovered the author after reading her obituary in the New York Times. I assumed she was a juggernaut in her field. Why else would The New York Times cover her death?

When I discover an author, I prefer to start my journey through their bibliography by buying their latest book. If I like it, I will move backward through their works.

But in this case, I have chosen to read Kate Wilhelm’s stories from the start primarily because some of them came out in the 60s and 70s. I have enjoyed the glimpses of the past they have offered.
