Am I the only one disturbed by the fact that Michael Shaara wrote the brilliant ‘The Killer Angels,’ and then his son came along and wrote an equally brilliant follow-up?
Seriously, how can one family have so much talent? I won’t sit here and say that ‘Gods and Generals’ is better than ‘The Killer Angels,’ but it was definitely the more impressive undertaking because it was Jeff’s first attempt at writing.
Think about that. Most authors fumble out of the gate with their debut manuscripts, but Jeff absolutely killed it. Stories about The Civil War don’t interest me, yet he found a way to breathe new life into that section of history. The man deserves all the awards.
I have tried to read 3 of Jeff Shaara’s books and they aren’t for me. If I was a history buff, maybe, but not my style of interest.
