Henning Mankell (Henning Georg Mankell) was born on February 3rd, 1948. Henning passed away October 5th, 2015 at 67 years old. Henning Mankell was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Mankell attended The University of St Andrews in Scotland where he received an Honorary Doctor of Letters.

Henning Mankell had written 10 standalone novels, starting with The Eye of the Leopard in 1990. The most recently released novel was The Rock Blaster, which was released in 2020.

Henning Mankell also wrote the Kurt Wallander series which has 10 books including Faceless Killers and The Dogs of Riga.

Sidetracked won the Swedish Crime Writer’s Academy Awards, The Best Swedish Crime Novel Award, in 1995 as well as the Crime Writer's Association Award - Gold Dagger Award in 2001. The Return of the Dancing Master won the Gumshoe Award, Best European Crime Novel, in 2005. After the Fire won the Crime Writer's Association Award, International Dagger Award, in 2018.

Henning Mankell books have also been nominated for multiple awards, One Step Behind was nominated for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, Best Mystery/Thriller, in 2002. The Return of the Dancing Master was nominated for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, Best Mystery/Thriller, in 2004. The Troubled Man was nominated for the Barry Award, Best Novel, in 2012.
