Eva Dillon

Eva Dillon spent 25 years in the magazine publishing business in New York City, which includes stints at Harper’s Bazaar, The New Yorker, Vogue, Glamour. She was president of Reader’s Digest, US.

Eva and her 6 siblings grew up moving around the world for her dad’s CIA assignments in Mexico City, Berlin, New Delhi, and Rome.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Music from Virginia Commonwealth University.

The best part of being a writer for Eva is having as much time as she likes to get a sentence, a paragraph, or even a word just right. When she is talking, she often struggles to find the right words or maintain a clear sentence structure. However, when she’s writing, she loves having the luxury of time (and a good thesaurus) to communicate what she wants to say efficiently and eloquently, yet can’t always do so working off the cuff.

It’s the astonishing true story about 2 spies and their families on opposite sides of the Cold War.

During the summer of 1975, Eva Dillon (age 17) was living in New Delhi with her family as her dad was exposed as a CIA spy. She’d long believed her dad was a U. S. State Department employee. She had no idea that he was handling Dmitri Fedorovich Polyakov, the CIA’s highest-ranking double agent and Soviet general whose code name was TOPHAT. Her dad and Polyakov had this close friendship which went back years, to their first meeting in Burma during the mid-60s. At the Cold War’s height, the Russian offered the CIA an unfiltered glimpse into the vault of Soviet intelligence. His collaboration helped ensure the tensions between the 2 nuclear superpowers didn’t escalate into a shooting war.

About two families on opposing sides of the Cold War, and two men whose devoted friendship lasted until the day they died. This is a double memoir, about both families growing up on opposing sides of the Iron Curtain.

Eva goes beyond the fog of secrecy to craft this unforgettable tale of betrayal and friendship, double agents and clandestine lives, which challenges our notions of patriotism, exposing the commonality between people of opposing political and economic systems.
