Is anyone else shocked by the number of Kate Shugak novels Dana has written? The series had been running for a decade when I started reading it.
Can you imagine writing 20+ novels in the same series while finding ways of keeping each new installment fresh? She should have started repeating herself by book 12. And yet, some of her most recent Kate Shugak books are better than the first few novels in the series.
Cleary, she has continued to hone her craft. I don’t think the Shugak series would have persisted if Dana’s books were not so character-driven. Personally, I keep reading them because I am invested in the relationships.
