Clare Mackintosh is refreshing for people like me who just discovered her because no one is comparing her work to books like ‘The Girl on the Train.’ And if they have, I haven’t heard it.

I’m more dismissive of novels like ‘The Girl on the Train’ because they are grounded, and yet, they still feel fantastical. Mackintosh’s psychological thrillers will make you uneasy about some of the real-life things you take for granted.

I had a lukewarm response to ‘I Let You Go.’ It wasn’t terrible. However, it did not engage me in the way I expected. But it feels like I finally got on the same wavelength as Mackintosh from ‘I See You’ onward, which is why I enjoy all her releases.
