Ashley Antoinette is among the successful female writers of her time. The cartel was mind-blowing, and I liked how the author incorporated many twists and turns and made the story plot unpredictable. Most of Ashley’s books are fast-paced with a moving plot to get the reader right into the story. The characters are so well fleshed out and well developed right from the beginning. The Prada plan series was also intriguing, and I couldn’t help but pity Yaya, born in the streets with a mother for a whore and a father for a pimp. Yaya’s my favorite character,r and I liked how despite losing her parents at a tender age, she can cater to her needs. Looking forward to reading the Butterfly series.
When I first discovered Ashley Antoinette, her books blew my mind. I have experimented with African American literature in the past. But it rarely appeals to me because most of the African American authors I know write literary fiction, which puts me to sleep.
I rarely associate African American authors with genre fiction. I’ve seen plenty of African American crime fiction and romance on TV, but not in publishing. Antoinette showed me that I need to expand my reading horizons.
African American fiction is not quite as restrictive as I initially assumed. Some people on Ashley Antoinette-centric forums have recommended African American romance authors that are equally new to me. 2022 has been a very educational year.
