We need to stop telling readers to not judge books by their covers. Any author that goes to great lengths to secure an attractive book cover will inject the same amount of effort into the stories they write. Ann Charles’ Deadwood books have great covers, and the stories are equally impressive.

I suppose you can classify them as cozy mysteries because the protagonist lives in a strange town filled with quirky characters. The humor is probably the strongest component.

Violet’s adventures are not only entertaining but immensely funny. I wonder whether these books are connected to the Deadwood TV show. I never watched it despite the show’s popularity. I may check it out after finishing this series.
