David Weber’s books are easier to read than other prominent science fiction novels. The author’s settings have depth. He takes the time to explore them, explaining the technological concepts at the heart of his fictional societies.
And yet, this is not the sort of hard science fiction that repels the layperson, which is weird because I love Warhammer, and I discovered Weber while reading about authors that had experimented with wargames.
Considering his experience in the field, I expected his books to overwhelm me with technobabble. But I think he spends enough time fleshing out his world without overwhelming readers with exposition, which is why I always recommend Webber’s Honor Harrington novels to readers from other genres.
