Prime Video is gearing up for another thrilling adaptation, bringing Alafair Burke‘s 2019 novel The Better Sister to the small screen. The new series will star Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks, who will also serve as executive producers alongside showrunners Olivia Milch and Regina Corrado, and director Craig Gillespie. Burke will be a consultant for the series, which is co-produced by Tomorrow Studios and Amazon MGM Studios. This will be the first of Burke’s novels to receive an adaptation.
The Better Sister tells the story of two estranged sisters who find themselves entangled in a complex web of secrets and deceit. Jessica Biel will play Chloe, a successful magazine editor living a comfortable life in Manhattan with her lawyer husband and teenage stepson. Elizabeth Banks takes on the role of Nicky, the estranged sister struggling through a tumultuous personal life. When a murder rocks Chloe’s seemingly perfect family, the sisters must navigate their troubled pasts to uncover the truth.
Biel rose to fame in the hit TV series 7th Heaven and has since starred in films like “Blade: Trinity,” “The Illusionist,” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (2003). She will also star in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter.
Banks, known for her versatile career as both an actor and filmmaker, has appeared in major franchises like The Hunger Games and Spider-Man trilogies, and comedies such as “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Wet Hot American Summer”. Her directorial work includes “Charlie’s Angels” (2019) and the recent hit “Cocaine Bear.”
The Better Sister was named a Best Book of the Year by both the Washington Post and the Sun Sentinel upon its release in April 2019. With a gripping storyline and a stellar cast, Prime Video’s adaptation is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated thriller series on streaming.
