The second novel in the Exorcist series, Legion, was adapted into a movie in 1990 called The Exorcist III. Following that, two more movies not based on any particular books were released which were Exorcist: The Beginning and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. A new movie was planned with an expected 2023 release date with David Gordon Green as the director. It is based on a screenplay he co-wrote, and will be a direct sequel to The Exorcist. William also revised his novel Twinkle. Twinkle, Killer Kane which was initially released in 1966. The revisation was called The Ninth Configuration, and was adapted into a movie in 1980. he also directed the movie, and it won the best screenplay award at the Golden Globes.
