My friends and I have spent the last few days debating Victoria Laurie’s genre. I know she is officially classified as a chick-lit author. But I don’t see the difference between her and any other cozy mystery author.
In fact, I would have classified her as a romance author. However, the mystery component plays a prominent role in most of her novels. Admittedly, I cannot definitively differentiate between chick-lit, romance, and cozy mysteries.
I know the difference in my head. I can pick a chick-lit novel out of an array of books. But I can’t explain what makes a book chick-lit. Not that it matters. The classification debates do not prevent me from enjoying Laurie’s work. But I get somewhat irritated whenever I go hunting for Laurie’s novels in the cozy mystery or romance sections of my local library only to find that they placed her books on the chick-lit shelf.
