Legal thrillers have always fascinated me because I don’t understand why the genre is appealing. If you’ve read one legal thriller, then surely, you’ve read them all. Admittedly, I haven’t read enough legal thrillers to have a substantial opinion on the genre.

This is what I know: I kept waiting for Victor Methos’ books to bore me. But that never happened. I suppose this genre is no different from detective fiction. Most detective novels rely on the same tropes. You always have a dysfunctional detective trying to catch a criminal. But the variations in the cases prevent the individual books from becoming predictable.

I expected Methos to bury me under a blanket of courtroom battles and legal jargon. But again, that shows you that I haven’t read enough legal thrillers to have an opinion on the genre.
