I remember reading the synopsis for ‘Lie to Me’ and rolling my eyes. I couldn’t believe my book club expected me to read another story about a wife that goes missing, only for investigations to reveal that the seemingly happy couple was miserable.
I have read one too many Gone Girl knockoffs in recent years, and I had no interest in reading another. But then a strange thing happened. I read ‘Lie to Me,’ and it blew me away.
That first page was spine-tingling, and the twists and turns caught me completely off guard. Since then, I have come to recognize Ellison as one of the best thriller writers in the business. Her characters are incredibly flawed, yet they feel real. Even after reading ‘Lie to Me,’ the twist in ‘Tear Me Apart’ got me.
