I did not expect to enjoy Sara Donati’s Wilderness series. So many reviews kept comparing the books to Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, which I haven’t read. But I watched the show, and it disappointed me. But you know what? I’m actually tempted to give Outlander a read because Donati’s Wilderness series is fantastic.
She writes the sort of romance I did not know I wanted. I don’t know if the historical components are accurate, but I don’t really care. I realized a long time ago that I should stop taking my history lessons from fictional novels, regardless of the amount of research the author claims to have done.
I read fiction for its entertainment value, and Donati’s Wilderness books are not only entertaining but engrossing.
I used to read for pleasure when I was in my 30’s and 40’s, but life got in the way and my reading was sporadic until I started a job in 2016 where I was in my car up to 5 hours a day . I started to listen to audio books including authors such as Ken Follett, Jeffrey Archer and Adriana Trigiani. Them in 2016, I entered a Goodreads giveaway and won Sara’s The Gilded Hour. I was hooked from the first chapter and have since read every book she has written. Her research gives every book such depth and her characters have become “friends” who I think about long after I finish the book. Can’t wait for what comes next😁
