Ruby Dixon’s novels are like cocaine. Once she sinks her hooks into your flesh, you won’t stop reading until you’ve devoured her entire bibliography. I knew she had me when I started missing early morning classes because I kept staying up late to read her Ice Planet Barbarians books.
I hope she doesn’t release anymore because I can’t control myself. Dixon writes smut. But it’s well-written smut. Yes, most of us read these novels for the sensual content. But I would argue that Dixon’s characters are intriguing enough to keep us engaged, even in the absence of the sexual tension that drives the author’s stories.
I have a cousin who wants Dixon to inject additional depth into her work. But I keep telling her to read other authors if she wants contemporary stories filled with conventional romance. I don’t want Dixon to taint the sci-fi/fantasy tales she writes by trying to conform to the demands of contemporary romance readers.
I want her to stay in her lane because, for the moment, her novels push all the right buttons for me.
You know an author is great when you stay up late at night reading their novels. I was so addicted to the Ice Planet Barbarians series, and I liked every page of it. Honestly, I was never a fan of Dixon until my colleagues recommended the series to me, and that’s how I’ve grown to love her work, and I don’t regret it. Thanks to this booklist for listing more books by Dixon. Vektal was my favorite character, and he was drop-dead amazing when he went crazy about his mate. In the Corsairs series, I loved Kivian because of his fun and hilarious dialogue, and he was also an amazing alien hero. It was adorable how he swooped in and saved Fran. Dixon’s novels are full of humor to keep readers engaged to the end.
I have enjoyed reading many books by Ruby Dixon. She has something for everyone.
