Whenever someone praises a novel because of the number of copies it sold, I can’t help but roll my eyes. You don’t have to be a great writer to produce bestsellers. Like cheap pop songs, there are boxes that successful authors can tick to pique the interest of readers.

They know all the buttons to push to entertain the masses. But The Shell Seekers is different. The fact that it sold ten million copies doesn’t surprise me. The Shell Seekers is a heavy book (more or less) with a powerful message. It encourages readers to seek the deeper things that life has to offer.

Pilcher’s writing is incredible. It will paint the most vivid pictures in your mind. By the time I finished The Shell Seekers, I was eager to change everything about my life. These are the kinds of authors I’m learning to appreciate, writers that can transform your entire way of thinking.
