Rod Dreher

Rod Dreher (Ray Oliver Dreher Jr.) was born on February 14th, 1967 and is currently 59 years old. Rod Dreher was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. Dreher attended Louisiana State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in journalism.

Rod Dreher is an editor and conservative writer who lives in Hungary. He wrote for The American Conservative for 12 years, ending in March of 2023, and is editor-at-large there.

Rod has written about politics, culture, film, and religion in National Review Online, The Wall Street Journal, National Review, The Weekly Standard, as well as other publications. He was a film critic for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and chief film critic for the New York Post. His commentaries have been broadcast on NPR’s All Things Considered, and he’s appeared on Fox News, CNN, Court TV, MSNBC, and other networks.

Rod started his career as a TV critic for The Washington Times, and went on to work as editor for National Review and chief film critic for the New York Post.

In 2002, he penned an essay that explored a subcategory of American conservatism, which he defined as granola conservatism, whose adherents he called crunchy cons.

He had a blog from 2006 to 2010 called “Crunchy Con”, which was renamed in 2010 as Rod Dreher, shifting its focus from political to cultural topics. During this same time, he worked as an editorial writer and columnist for The Dallas Morning News, which he left late in 2009 to become the publications director for the John Templeton Foundation.
