When you mention Robert Ludlum my mind immediately thinks of Jason Bourne.
Bourne has been one of my favorite protagonists for years and I have watched most of the film adaptations of the Jason Bourne series.
My first introduction to Bourne was through the film Bourne Identity that starred Matt Damon. I have since then read several of the novels starting from The Bourne Identity.
The first three films in the Bourne series that featured Matt Damon as the lead were in my opinion the best.
I did not like The Bourne Legacy which starred Jeremy Renner probably because I have always associated it with Damon and I was happy when it was announce that Bourne would be coming back.
If you watched Matt Damon’s ‘The Bourne Identity,’ I urge you to read the novel. To be clear, I’m not one of those book snobs that takes great pleasure in ripping adaptations apart because the books are always better.
I watched all the Bourne films and loved them, even the fourth one with Jeremy Renner. But ‘The Bourne Identity’ novel and ‘The Bourne Identity’ film are entirely different entities.
Yes, they share a few names and settings, but the story in the adaptation is practically new. I don’t know why they took that route. And at the end of the day, I loved the adaptation. But do yourself a favor and read the novel. You won’t regret it.
In fact, read everything Ludlum has ever written. The man has sold hundreds of millions of copies of his books for a reason. He knows what he’s doing.
